Welcome to The Blog!

Or, as I'm calling it, Stories from the Homestead. That sounds so much more like sitting by a campfire swapping stories, and so much less like me sitting at a typewriter all day. Although it is a laptop, and that is what I am doing.

It is the thought that counts!

Anyway, I have a huge list of topics I would like to tackle in this blog/list of stories.

I’d like to write out the full story of our move to Alaska. It took us a little less than 7 days, and there are plenty of stories that did not make it into the hour-long YouTube video.

I am interested in sharing how we budget on a YouTube income because one of our main questions is, “How do you make it work?” “What ELSE do you do for work?” This. This is what we do for work. Is the income low? Absolutely. Is it manageable? On a tight budget, absolutely!

We have filmed plenty of Q&A Videos, but I feel that I can be so much more in-depth when I write.

How and why did we get started with YouTube? What are our long-term goals for the homestead? How many kids do you want? Will you homeschool? What are your favorite recipes?

The list of ideas and questions to address goes on and on, and I am honestly excited to answer and write about them all. I really enjoy sharing.

Let’s be honest, would we have started any of this if I didn’t enjoy sharing?

I also enjoy writing, and I think writing will be another fun outlet for me and a possible side income stream. Because if we are being honest, and I am all about honesty, we have to make an income to make this work.

That is the big reason why we are here. YouTube is great and all, but I don’t like having all of my eggs in one basket. I love the idea of a website because it feels like some eggs are in MY basket. So long as I pay my fees, no one can take this away from me.

If YouTube crashes tomorrow?

Say goodbye to Levi, he is going to be working on the North Slope. Two weeks on, two weeks off. Hundreds of miles from his family, like so many other men in Alaska do every day.

I keep this up, because I want my husband home with us.

Don’t get me wrong, he does a ton of the work too! I would not be able to edit if he did not take care of Henry on my work days. When I need a break to throw up for 6 weeks while carrying our second child, he puts in the film hours.

We are very much a team. The difference is that if one of us has to get a job, it’ll be him. I don’t want that for him or us. I would rather live on this tight budget and type away here than see him once in a blue moon. We have lived that life and do not plan to go back to it.

I will get off my “real job” soap box now and get back to the main topic. Not sure there is a main topic for this snippet other than WELCOME! And THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

We really do appreciate the support that we have received on YouTube and hope this little blog and website are well-received. We plan to continue bringing new artwork to our merchandise options from various artists and continue to make a few things by hand for sale.

I will get my fingers typing in between garden work and raising babies to keep the stories coming, and Levi will continue to set up the camera and build me cool things like chicken coops.

Let us know in the comments below what the first blog post you would like to see on the site is. I have more ideas than I can even wrap my head around, so I would love to know what the readers want to read!

Thank you again for your amazing support. Just being here helps us immensely.

❤️Becca
